Kathak final film evaluation
I have just watched the film of my final performance of the Kathak dance group piece ‘Dancing on the Streets’ which I performed at the Spotlight college production on Wednesday 14th June 2023. I am pleased in what i have achieved in this performance, particularly when performing bols which make up the Kathak style. bols are the rhythmic sequence and during this rhythmic sequence we have to infuse mudras(hand gestures) I think this because i could tell how much i have improved with my rhythmic accuracy whilst using coordination and balance two of the six physical skills , evidence of this is backed up from an audience member who said 'our performance had strong and sharp movements'. Comparing my bols to the first time i was introduced to Kathak dance ,i struggled as i could not get the right coordination and kept forgetting the positioning of my feet, after disciplined rehearsals i could not have hoped for a better performance in terms with this. Secondly i was also pleased to see that vocally my diction and volume when telling the story of Sita was clear, this is supported from one of my teachers Lois saying 'Their projection was excellent from everyone in terms of telling the story and the diction really clear. Another thing i was impressed with was my expression when telling the story as i used a diverse expression to display how Sita could be feeling, this is backed up from another member of the audience who said 'everyones expression showed lots of emotion'.
Although i was overall impressed with my performance, I also recognise that there are elements which I could still develop and improve on, one being my body shape. A lot of the time it was mostly consistent but you could see that sometimes my arms could be slightly straighter. Secondly Timing although i was doing the counts in my head and looking at the person in front to double check i am in time, there is still a very few times i am too fast or too slow.
