Future progression plan (Dance)

My future development plan begins with completing my current course level 3 Cambridge technical extended diploma in performing arts with a current grade of D/D/M

I will continue to practice dance and musical theatre at the Coop Juniors theatre academy. This helps me improve my time management skills as it is a full commitment to be there at rehearsals on time whilst also having some independence, so you do not have to rely on teachers around you. On Thursdays, I have a technical class to improve physical skills, whilst on Fridays and Sundays I rehearse any upcoming show, I will progress as a dancer as I learn different dance styles such as Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Modern and Ballet which will make me have versatility as a dancer.

In addition to my industry work I notice not all my physical skills are consistent and some need improvement, such as strength I can improve this by doing other activities outside the industry like having a healthy diet plan whilst going to the gym. Also, as a dancer it is important that you develop your personal skills like adaptability, independence, teamwork, time management, communication and being reliable and trustworthy. I learn all these skills and plan to develop them further whilst working at a Chinese takeaway.

I plan to complete my pre-professional training at Italia Conti Academy of theatre arts, gaining a BA (hons) in dance. The reason I have chosen this institution is because Italia Conti has one of the best working facilities in the country. This includes 18 studios used by dance, singing and acting classes including full-length mirrors, sprung floors, and sound systems. In addition to this at the end of the 3 years each dancer is assigned to an agent which increases the likelihood of being employed within this industry. Something to keep in mind is that Italia Conti will support you and give you advice on unions and how to gain membership. I found their performances highly entertaining and inspiring when I stumbled upon them whilst browsing through social media, from what I can see they are being trained to an incredibly high standard. After constantly browsing through their socials, I can see from the students that Italia Conti gives a warm welcoming atmosphere with lots of enthusiasm; this is the kind of environment I would love to be in.

I intend to attend Chichester University doing a 3 year Bachelor of arts degree on the dance performance course. This course specialises mainly in Contemporary dance which is an area i would like to get into professionally. This course gives me access to amazing facilities, 4 dance studios a dance theatre, a gym and even sprung floor areas which will aid me into becoming a better dancer through developing my skills. Through lots of research i have gained an understanding that the teachers and staff have a high reputation in the performing industry, with many of them currently performing with major companies. Well know companies and choreographers come to the university which gives me an opportunity to explore a wide variety of dance styles enhancing my versatility as a dancer
